A lot of fun and great golf at the 2009 Victorian Social Golf Club Championships Final!
On Saturday November 21 at Waterford Valley Golf Course in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, 20 teams representing 14 social golf clubs came together to battle it out for the 2009 Victorian Social Golf Club Championships (VSGCC). With conditions suited to scoring, there were some great rounds played which helped put a few smiles on faces, but it seemed a leading score was not required for a good time as many of the competitors made sure they had an enjoyable day and plenty of fun on the course, no matter what score they shot. Below we see Peter Stokes, Bobette Wilkinson (Laverton Park 1), Jon Urquhart and Ash Turner (The Whitewash Cup) having a good laugh on the 10th green.
With the overcast skies making the light and visibility perfect for golf, a light breeze and comfortable temperature meant conditions were ideal for scoring. Add to this that a week of very high temperatures had meant the team at Waterford Valley had kept the water up to the greens to protect hem from burning off. This meant that by Saturday they were well watered and a little more forgiving then usual. In the finish, a quarter of the field broke par and the best round posted was 45 points by Clyde Paul from Bushranger Golf 1. According to Clyde, a big part of the reason he played so well was the fun and relaxed atmosphere of his group.
"We had a great time out there and the guys were just really enjoyable fellas to play golf with. I had a day out and played easily my best ever golf and the guys were having a lot of fun winding me up as well as cheering every shot all day. We all had a great time."

Here the fellas are giving it to Clyde on the 12th tee for hitting every fairway. He then stepped up and whacked another one straight down the middle to more cheers from his gallery.
When all the results were in, a horde of players in the field had given par a mighty shake and just a few shots separated the leaders in both the team and individual events. In the finish, Brunswick Social Golf Club won the 2009 State Championship. they had the second best round of the day with 43 points from David Puddefoot and some very consistent rounds from the other three members of the team, all scoring between 35 ad 38 points. Below we see John Moore on the left looking on as Brunswick SGC team mate George Zahra putts on the third green. Their playing partners are Cath Briant and Steve Dorning from Bushranger Golf 2.
