2009 ASGCC Results - Round One - Lakelands Golf Club - August 24

The first round of the 2009 Australian Social Golf Club Championships (ASGCC) was held at the stunning Jack Nicklaus-designed Lakelands Golf Club on Monday August 24. Play commenced as a shotgun start from midday.

The event featured a swag of great prizes totalling over $1500, including Wilson Staff Dx2 Soft golf balls, merchandise from our major media partner Inside Golf magazine and our own ASGCC Shiraz from Heathcote Winery. Thanks also to bwired online solutions for their assistance and support with the event website.

The course was presented in great condition and was bathed in brilliant sunshine as the temperature hovered around 30 degrees for most of the afternoon. The wind got up for a few holes on the front nine but for the most part conditions were benign, which set up some great scores on the first day of the Championships.

Both the team and individual results were very close with only a few shots separating each of the teams on the podium. In the individual event, nine players in the field managed to shoot under par and, at the finish, six shots separated the top 10 golfers and countbacks were required to decide most of the places. Brian Garbutt from Gold Cross 1 just edged Bruce Cowan from Baysiders 2 by a single shot while Brett Cullen from Tour Fore Golfers took out third place on countback. In the team event, just six shots separated the top five teams and it was All Stars 1 who took home the bikkies. The Tour Fore Golfers were just two shots back with SP SGC another two strokes back in third.
