2009 ASGCC Results - Round Three - Palm Meadows - August 26

The third and final round of the 2009 Australian Social Golf Club Championships (ASGCC) was staged at Palm Meadows Golf Course on Wednesday August 26 with play commencing as a single tee start on the first hole from 8:30am.

The event for the day featured a swag of great prizes totalling over $1500, including Wilson Staff  Dx2 Soft golf balls, merchandise from our major media partner Inside Golf magazine and our own ASGCC Shiraz from Heathcote Winery. Thanks also to bwired online solutions for their assistance and support with the event website.

The team at Palm Meadows presented the course in superb condition and the weather was kind for the fourth consecutive day of the Championships with plenty of sunshine the order of the day, the occasional light breeze and temperatures forecast again in the low 30s.

In the individual event, the results were very close with only three players shooting under par and just six shots separating the first 11 golfers. Brett Cullen  from the Tour Fore Golfers took the bikkies ahead of his team mate Wendy Gibney. David Rushmore from All Stars 2 rounded out the podium in third place, just one shot clear of Steve Franklin from Robina Tavern SGC who shot 36 points. The team results followed the same pattern as day two with a close race for the leading scores in the top 10 results but one team bolting clear with three players in the top 10 individual results for the day. The Tour Fore Golfers won the day ahead of All Stars 2 and Robina Tavern SGC in third place.

However, one man stole the limelight on the penultimate hole of the Championships with a solo effort that brought biggest roar around Palm Meadows since Greg Norman won the 1988 Palm Meadows Cup. On the par three 17th hole, Brad Carver from the Nunawading Birdies achieved the ultimate in golf when his tee shot disappeared in the cup for a hole-in-one! On the tee of the 165 metre hole, he casually launched an mid-iron right out of the middle that covered the stick all the way, landed on the front portion of the green, took a couple of hops, settled into a nice role that tracked perfectly for the hole and then disappeared!

This year the Australian Edition of the Official Hole-in-One Register has joined as a sponsor for all the State and Australian SGC Championships. The Register aims to list all aces scored in Australian competition (professional and amateur) to recognise those fortunate golfers who have found the cup with a single blow. Brad will be listed in future editions of the Register and will receive an official certificate sanctioned by Golf Australia and a copy of the inaugural edition of The Official Hole-in-One Register, which includes many fascinating facts, figures, statistics, records and stories about people and their aces from around the world. Congratulations to Brad on his ace and the Official Hole-in-One Register extends a warm welcome to him as a new member of the most exclusive golf club in the world!
