The State Social Golf Club Championships

The Social Golf Club Championships (SGCCs) of Australia are a network of National and State golf championships developed, operated and owned by event manager Social Golf Australia. The events are official championships fully supported by  Golf Australia and the relevant amateur governing golf bodies in each State. In 2009, each event is a stand alone championship. The winning teams in the 2009 State Championships will all receive preferential and discounted entry into the 2010 Australian Championships held in the last week of August on the Gold Coast.

Victorian Social Golf Club Championships (VSGCC)

The VSGCC event format is a competition between teams of four representing their social golf club playing stableford rounds and aggregating the individual stableford scores to make the team total. Four regional qualifiers are played throughout the year and the leading seven teams from each qualifying round win a place to be one of the 28 teams in the final competing for the honour to call their social golf club the State Champion. Players are required to have a current official Australian handicap to compete and the event is supported by Golf Australia, the Victorian Golf Association and Women's Golf Victoria.

The three best scores from each team of four are totalled to determine the team score and the best team total wins. The fourth-best score from each team is used to break ties. In the qualifying rounds and the final, each social golf club team of four is split into pairs and plays with a pair from another club. Cards are marked by the players from the other team in the group. All scores are entered on GOLF Link and count towards players' official handicaps. There is no division between male and female competitors. Teams compete representing their social golf clubs with no limits on the gender composition of the teams: all male, all female and mixed teams are welcome to participate.

In year one in Queensland, the championship will operate with the same format as above except it will be held as a one-day event. The inaugural QSGCC will be held on Sunday November 1st at Indooroopilly Golf Club. The event is supported by both Golf Australia and Golf Queensland and is an official State Title. The individual members of the 2009 State Championship team will each receive a $500 discount on their entry into the 2010 Australian Championships. From 2010, the event will expand using the Victorian model with four qualifying rounds throughout the year and a final in November.

In year one in New South Wales, the championships will also be held as a one-day event with the same format as the inaugural Queensland Championships. The inaugural NSW SGCC will be held on Sunday November 29th at Riverside Oaks Golf Course. The event is supported by Golf Australia and we are currently in discussions with the NSW Golf Association and Women's Golf NSW to seek their support. The individual members of the 2009 State Championship team will each receive a $500 discount on their entry into the 2010 Australian Championships. From 2010, we plan to develop the event along the lines of the Victorian model with qualifying rounds and a final.

Western Australian Social Golf Club Championships (WA SGCC)

The Western Australian Social Golf Club Championships (WASGCC) is still in development. The inaugural event is planned for late 2009 or in 2010. As soon as the event details are finalised, we will post information here. The WA SGCC will follow the same development model as NSW and Queensland with a one-day Championship held in the inaugural year and then expanding into an event with qualifying rounds and a final. The event has the support of Golf Australia and we are in the process of discussing the event with the Western Australian Golf Association.
